PARKS
The largest of West Hill's many fine parks,
Morningside is the social gathering spot for the community. Here on
weekends church groups and families, of every ethnic background,
gather in one of the city's finest parks to picnic and barbecue, jog
and wander, sit and wonder, play and enjoy nature.
This beautiful park stretches from the Go Station to
Morningside Avenue along the banks of Highland Creek. For most of its
length it is a wilderness area with a paved path for bikes and roller
bladers and benches for the weary and those that just want to pause
and meditate.
But for community groups and picnickers the broad
grass flatlands of the Highland Creek Valley floor are a mecca for
families and groups, with races and soccer games in progress, kite
flying and model plane flights breaking out at any time, and the
fragrant aroma of barbecues whetting the appetite. Here too, the
area's amateur astronomers host a star gazing night in the spring and
the fall.
